By pairing a 230V input with a 2600W load, we’ve managed to pack a ton of heat into a relatively compact footprint.
Why carbon fiber?
Here is the secret: we swapped out the usual nichrome wire for carbon fiber. It makes a massive difference. The lamp hits its operating temperature way faster. Plus, it puts out more long-wave infrared radiation, which means the heat actually sinks deeper into whatever material you’re working on, rather than just scorching the surface.
The build quality
The whole heating element is tucked inside a high-purity quartz glass envelope. Quartz is great because it doesn’t freak out when the carbon fiber expands from the heat. It keeps the filament from oxidizing, which is a fancy way of saying it stops the tube from burning out too early. And since the carbon fiber core keeps its resistance stable even when things get scorching, your power draw won’t jump around once the tube settles in. It just stays steady.
A few things to keep in mind
Wiring these into a standard 230V industrial grid is pretty straightforward. But a quick heads-up: 2600W is a heavy draw. Make sure your wiring gauge can handle the current. You don’t want to deal with voltage drops at the terminals. One more thing. Because these tubes get so intense, the quartz seals can get stressed if your machine vibrates a lot. **Use flexible mounting clips.**It’ll stop the glass from snapping during a cycle. Also, keep an eye on your airflow. If your cooling fans quit, the heat around that 650mm tube will climb fast. Just make sure your housing has plenty of vents to let it breathe.
