
Getting Your Adelco Tunnel Ovens to Actually Stay Stable
If you’ve ever worked with Adelco drying tunnels, you know the struggle. You’ve got these long stretches of oven, and the last thing you want is a “cold spot” halfway through that ruins a whole batch of parts. It’s a headache. To fix that, we use tungsten filament IR lamps. But it’s not just about picking a bulb; it’s about making sure the heat stays steady from the first inch to the last.
The Power Struggle
Here’s the thing: you can’t just crank up the wattage and hope for the best. That’s a recipe for disaster. We focus on balancing the voltage and wattage to keep the heat density under control. By using high-voltage setups, we keep the current draw per lamp low. This means your wiring doesn’t get stressed out and you don’t deal with those annoying voltage drops at the end of the line. One quick warning: if you’re running a 2500W tube, your cooling has to be on point. If the heat builds up too much around the sockets, your connectors will fry. And nobody wants to be replacing connectors in the middle of a shift.
What’s Inside the Lamp?
We use high-purity quartz to house the tungsten filaments. For these Adelco setups, we rely on a halogen cycle. Basically, this process puts the tungsten back onto the filament as it wears. It stops the wire from thinning out and popping prematurely. Plus, we make these as drop-in replacements with standard R7s or Sk15 connectors. You just plug them in and get back to work. Fast and simple.
Making it Work in the Real World
The biggest enemy in a long tunnel is “thermal drift.” Our IR lamps use shortwave radiation, which means the heat hits your part directly. It’s way faster than waiting for hot air to circulate. But there’s a catch. Shortwave IR is aggressive. If your conveyor is crawling, you’re going to scorch your product. That’s why we spend time tuning the lamp spacing and power zones to match your specific line speed. We also make sure the lamps fit perfectly on the Adelco rails, so the “sweet spot” of the heat hits the center of your part every single time.
