
Getting Your Curing Right with Carbon Fiber IR Lamps
If you’re running a printing press, you know the drill. You need heat, and you need it now. We build our carbon fiber infrared (IR) lamps for exactly that—situations where you can’t afford to sit around waiting for a machine to warm up. Instead of those old-school quartz halogen tubes, we use a carbon fiber filament tucked inside a quartz envelope. It’s a simple change, but it lets us push the wattage up to 1200W or 1600W. That’s a lot of muscle for the heavy-duty drying jobs. Which power level do you actually need? It really comes down to how fast your line is moving. If you’re dealing with thick substrates or inks that are stubborn and viscous, go with the 1600W. It hits harder. The best part? The carbon fiber filament hits its operating temperature almost instantly. No more waiting on a convection oven to get up to speed. You’re sending radiant energy straight into the ink layer, rather than wasting time heating up the entire metal frame of your machine. Built to take a beating The carbon fiber core is where the magic happens. These things can handle the thermal shock of being turned on and off constantly without burning out. We wrap them in high-purity quartz so the IR light gets through without any fuss. One quick tip: make sure your mounting brackets are tight. Printing presses vibrate. If the lamp isn’t seated perfectly, that vibration can wear down the filament over time.Keep it snug. Fitting them into your setup Most of the time, these are easy drop-in replacements for your existing drying arrays. They actually let you shrink the size of your heating zone, which is a nice win for floor space. But here’s the thing… that 1600W punch requires some planning. Double-check your power supplies and your wiring. If your ventilation isn’t great, the heat can build up around the housing and fry your nearby electronics. And please, use high-temperature rated leads. Nobody wants to deal with melted insulation in the middle of a shift.
